Manager should act like a leader and then it would be more effective to motivate employees.I know a lot of manager value customer and neglect employees.Customer is really important to us but customers are getting service from your employees,And if you upset one customer and then you loose your revenue, customer might not come again to your restaurant.In order to give customer an excellent service ,you have to fix your employees first. Leader differ from " Boss "!

Some people may argue that "boss" is similar to leader.The thing is , it depends how "the boss person "takes his approaches.Because we often see how boss takes his or her approaches.Even from my real life experience i can draw some summary of boss.For example boss normally drives employees where the leader coaches them.Its all about showing the right direction rather then driving them.A boss can be leader if he or she changes his or her approaches..Because a boss often inspires fear where the boss generates enthusiasm amongst followers.If you put fears among the employees , you wouldnt expect much from them,would you?.Furthermore the real life experience ,I noticed the boss never say "We" , he or she always mention"I".If  you mention "we" amongst your employees, they feel they are in a team not left out .And that will boost the teamwork.
